Dr. Michelle D. Welch-Smith, M.D. is a Board Certified Dermatologist. Dr. Welch-Smith enlisted in the US Army after high school and served as a combat medic, and later went to college and medical school on military scholarships. Her dermatology training was at the prestigious Walter Reed Army Medical Center where she also served as a Major and was a staff dermatologist and also was appointed as an associate professor of dermatology at USUHS medical school. Her last duty assignment was at Fort Jackson, SC serving as the Chief of the Dermatology Clinic. Her family chose to settle in SC upon leaving military service in 2005. She has been in private practice providing dermatology care to many communities in SC.
Dr. Welch-Smith is married to John "Jack" Smith II, and they have two children: Matthew and Abby Welch. Matthew graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is currently pursuing a degree in law at Wake Forest University. Abby is currently enrolled at Clemson University and is a majoring in Civil Engineering, while being a part of Clemson's Army ROTC program.
Dr. Welch-Smith and her family attend Prince George Episcopal Church and are active members of the Georgetown community. She sponsors IFA fishing teams and has performed free skin cancer screenings in the community. You may have seen her right on Front Street enjoying Georgetown's beautiful historic district and all the amazing shops and restaurants! Her family loves fishing, shrimping and crabbing on the coast!
